Job description

The Boise State University Department of Communication invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor (annually renewable contract, eligible for promotion) to begin Fall 2027.

Ideal candidates will bring excitement and enthusiasm in their approach to teaching our core curriculum - COMM 248: Communication Perspectives and COMM 298: Communication Inquiries - while continuing to help broaden our existing departmental strengths. We seek candidates with teaching expertise that fits within at least one of our three areas of curricular focus:

Below is a general description of our two core classes:

COMM 248: Communication Perspectives- This course is designed to support Communication majors in exploring various frameworks to study human communication that will guide their personal and professional lives. Students engage purposeful learning strategies to consider the value and possibilities of the Communication field, including degree planning and career development. The course provides students foundational opportunities to build community with other Communication majors at the start of their degree program.

COMM 298: Communication Inquiries- This course introduces students to the theoretical and practical uses of multiple communication research methods. The student will learn how to conduct background research, develop research questions and hypotheses, design research projects, collect/analyze data, and present results. They will also see research in action through reading various studies.

Standard position responsibilities include a 4/4 teaching load with service expectations. We offer mentoring and departmental resources to foster successful teaching activities.

Minimum qualifications:

• A terminal degree appropriate to the field of Communication; or
• A master's degree in Communication or a closely related field and at least eight years of full-time teaching experience at the college or university level or equivalent professional experience in the discipline.
• Demonstrated expertise and teaching experience in Communication.

For purposes of this position, equivalent experience may include professional training, curriculum development, instructional leadership, or other substantial professional work that includes responsibility for teaching or facilitating learning in communication-related settings.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary: $58,500 - $61,000 (9-month, renewable teaching faculty appointment; non-tenure track, eligible for promotion).
