Position Description

The Department of Communication Studies at Texas State University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Instructional Communication. Candidates' teaching and research expertise should include instructional communication, and we welcome candidates employing a range of methodological approaches. This tenure-track position will involve teaching, research, and service responsibilities, primarily in-person at the San Marcos campus. Employment will begin in August 2027.

Required Qualifications

• A PhD in Communication Studies or a communication-related field.
• Specialization in instructional communication.
• Preparedness to teach instructional communication and other courses in complementary areas at the university level (listed below).
• A record of departmental, university, professional, or community service.

Preferred Qualifications

• Sustained and impactful peer-reviewed, published scholarship.
• Evidence of preparation to teach graduate-level research methods (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, rhetorical, etc.)
• Teaching and/or research expertise in one or more complementary areas, such as interpersonal communication, nonverbal communication, small group communication, service-learning, or applied communication.
• Experience with or potential for external grant funding.
