Position Overview:

The Community Impact Program and the Interdisciplinary Professional Studies (IPS) program at Boise State University invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor (non-tenure track) beginning January 2027.

The position is focused on advancing Boise State University’s mission to expand access to high-quality, applied learning opportunities across Idaho and is responsible for developing and teaching Community Impact Certificate courses; recruiting and advising Community Impact Certificate students; and collaborating with the Community Outreach and Partnerships Coordinator and other faculty and staff to promote and support the Community Impact Program.

The role emphasizes community-engaged teaching, place-based learning, and applied instruction, particularly in rural and regional communities and ensures learning opportunities are accessible, relevant, and aligned with Boise State University programs.

This is a full-time, 10-month renewable appointment with opportunities for advancement within Boise State’s Teaching Faculty ranks. The position requires occasional year-round travel to partner communities in Southwestern Idaho and some evening or weekend work for community events or trainings.

Responsibilities May Include:

Teaching (40%)

• Teach all assigned Community Impact Certificate courses (typically a 2:2 teaching load).

• Continuously improve offerings and focus on student-centered, high impact learning opportunities.

Community Engagement, Learner Recruitment, and Partnership Leadership (45%)

• Work closely with the Community Outreach and Partnerships Coordinator to coordinate outreach, partnerships, and delivery of Community Impact Certificate programs.

• Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., outreach, advising, communications, and enrollment units) to support recruitment of learners into Community Impact Certificate programs.

• Build out campus partnerships to bring in guest speaker faculty and staff to expose students to more campus personnel

• With Community Outreach and Partnerships Coordinator, participate in community-facing events, information sessions, workshops, and outreach activities in partner communities that promote awareness of Community Impact Certificate offerings and to drive recruitment.

• In collaboration with Community Outreach and Partnerships Coordinator, build and sustain relationships with community organizations, local governments, schools, nonprofits, and other partners to support community-based learning.

• Support community-informed identification of learning needs and opportunities.

• Communicate and promote education pathways that support learner progression into further education or university programs.

Program Development, Assessment, and Institutional Service (10%)

• Lead or support assessment of Community Impact Certificate program, including learner outcomes, participation, and community impact.

• Maintain and utilize a database to track learners, partners, engagement, and pathways, in collaboration with relevant university units.

• Use assessment and database data to inform continuous improvement of curriculum, outreach strategies, and learner support.

• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees related to community engagement, applied learning, and outreach.

• As needed and appropriate, contribute to grant proposals, partnership agreements, or program development efforts that expand community-based education.

• Document and report program outcomes and community impact to internal and external stakeholders.

• Knowledge of adult learning, community-engaged education, and applied instructional practices.

• Ability to teach effectively through in-person workshops, short-format courses, and flexible learning models.

• Strong understanding of education pathways, stackable credentials, and learner progression.

• Ability to collaborate on learner recruitment and outreach efforts in partnership with campus units and community organizations.

• Ability to interpret and apply assessment and data to improve programs and learnerexperiences.

• Strong communication, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.

• Project management and organizational skills.

Minimum qualifications:

• PhD or terminal degree in relevant discipline (e.g., education, social sciences, humanities, communication, business, or other related fields).

• Three (3) years of experience in adult and/or non-traditional learning environments, community engagement, or workforce training.

• Evidence of successful teaching and student-centered curriculum design.

• Demonstrated success in developing or managing partnerships with employers or community organizations.

Preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of and familiarity with Idaho communities, and especially rural communities.

• Experience developing micro-credentials, non-credit training, or alternative learning pathways.

• Experience in rural or regional outreach and employer collaboration.

• Record of community-based project management or grant administration.

Salary and Benefits:
