Job summary

Boise State University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching mission with primary responsibilities in freshman and sophomore courses, and may teach upper-division courses within their expertise.

Lecturers teach four courses per semester and participate in innovative, evidence-based teaching practices.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, science education, or a closely related field.
• Candidates whose graduate degree is in an education-related field must also hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry.
• Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, science education, or a closely related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Teach freshman and sophomore chemistry courses and potentially upper-division courses within area of expertise.
• Lecture four courses per semester as part of the departmental instructional team.
• Support innovative, evidence-based teaching practices and contribute to student success.

Position overview:

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Boise State University invites applications for a full-time Lecturer position. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s teaching mission with primary teaching responsibilities in freshman and sophomore courses with the possibility of upper-division courses within their area of disciplinary expertise. Course assignments will include general chemistry and may also include discipline-specific courses that align with departmental needs and the candidate’s background.Summer teaching opportunities may be available for additional compensation.

Lecturers teach four courses per semester and are integral members of the department’s instructional team. These practices may include active learning strategies, the use of modern laboratory instrumentation, and technology-enhanced instruction.

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry offers Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Chemistry. Minimum qualifications:

• Master’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, science education, or a closely related field. Candidates whose graduate degree is in an education-related field must also hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or biochemistry

Preferred qualifications:

• Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, chemistry education, science education, or a closely related field
• Experience teaching general chemistry
• Experience developing and teaching online chemistry courses
• Experience using evidence-based instructional practices
• Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate student success
• Experience using modern laboratory instrumentation or technology-enhanced teaching methods

Salary and Benefits:

Salary ranges from $56,000 to $61,000 and is commensurate with experience

Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly, renewable contract, unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
