Job summary

Grand Haven Golf Club is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to support golf course maintenance and agronomic operations. You will oversee turfgrass care, irrigation, and staff, ensuring high-quality course conditions for members and guests.

The role requires leadership, strong communication, and experience with turf management and agronomy. Competitive salary and benefits are offered, with opportunities to contribute to a premier Jack Nicklaus Signature design course.

Qualifications

• Follow written instructions.
• Operate general maintenance equipment.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Hand dig in varying climates (hot/cold).
• Lift/pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
• Stand for long periods and withstand sun/extreme temps.
• Extensive experience overseeding warm-season turf in the Southwest.
• Experience applying fertilizers and chemicals with sprayers.
• Irrigation experience, Toro Lynx central control preferred.
• Supervisor experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage all phases of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, cost control, and staffing.
• Collaborate with the Golf Course Superintendent on maintenance issues.
• Direct and participate in grounds construction and maintenance.
• Enforce staff rules, regulations, and policies for members/guests.
• Coordinate fiscally responsible maintenance with the Superintendent.
• Assist with hiring and training staff, maintaining performance records.
• Ensure irrigation systems are operational and repairs are made.
• Oversee general maintenance: mowing, raking, blowing, mulching, sod work, aerification.
• Supervise 20+ employees daily and monitor labor expenses.
• Provide safety training to ensure OSHA/state/federal compliance.
• Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
