Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years in Golf Course Maintenance.
  • Current State Pesticide Applicators License or completion within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Associates degree preferred in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of golf course operations and equipment.
  • Able to lift up to 100 lbs and work outdoors in extreme temperatures.
  • Occasional weekend/holiday hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist agronomic direction for grasses, trees, wetlands, and club grounds.
  • Coordinate chemical treatments with regulatory compliance.

Job description

Overview

The Assistant Superintendent supports the daily operations of the Golf Course Maintenance department, including turfgrass and plant material maintenance, property and asset management, and expense forecasting. This role schedules and maintains irrigation systems, applies pesticides, keeps accurate records, and ensures compliance with regulatory requirements as directed by the Superintendent.

Experience Required
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in Golf Course Maintenance.
  • Current State Pesticide Applicators License or successfully completed within 90 days of employment.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Preferred: An associates degree in Turf Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
  • Preferred: General knowledge of business administration practices and golf course operations practices and procedures.
  • Preferred: Strong technical knowledge of all equipment, products, and resources related to Golf Course Operations.
  • Preferred: Ability to implement these resources to meet or exceed company and club standards.
  • Primarily works outdoors with frequent exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures and humidity.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, climb ladders, squat/kneel, reach, grasp, push/pull, twist/bend, and lift/carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Attendance requirements as outlined on the weekly schedule, with additional hours including weekends and/or holidays as needed.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist the 1st Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent in providing agronomic direction for the healthy growth of all grasses, trees, wetlands, and other plant materials on the golf course and clubhouse grounds.
  • Coordinate the application and documentation of chemical treatments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Support the 1st Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent in overseeing the crew, including scheduling and assigning tasks as directed.
  • Provide hands-on training to employees in technical skills, operations, and safety, adhering to OSHA standards and club protocols.
  • Ensure the safe use and proper maintenance of golf course mechanical equipment.
  • Assist in implementing maintenance programs established by the 1st Assistant Superintendent/Superintendent.
  • Participate in regular meetings with management and staff to review operations, maintenance, golf activities, and address safety and environmental concerns.
  • Assist others as needed and take on additional tasks as assigned by management.
  • Follow all company, club, and department policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and a commitment to excellence in interactions with members, colleagues, and staff.
  • Follow safe working practices, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Take initiative in personal and professional growth and maintain any required certifications relevant to the role.
  • Address and resolve challenges using available resources, working with regional and corporate teams to support club operations.
  • Attend daily briefings and actively engage in required activities to stay informed and contribute to the team's success.
