Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City, MO is seeking an Assistant Structural Engineer to assist project teams across power, process, healthcare, and industrial facilities from concept through design completion. You will help modify drawings, perform field measurements, support client presentations, and participate in construction support.

A bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering; ABET accreditation preferred, and internship experience or EIT certification are advantageous.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering or related field from an accredited program.
ABET accreditation strongly preferred.
Internship or consulting experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
Proficient with MS Office; CAD/ BIM tools listed above are expected.

Responsibilities

Assists in structural design from conceptual phase through design completion.
Modifies and reviews production drawings for diverse facilities.
Designs structural components per project needs and requirements.
Applies basic structural engineering concepts, codes and procedures.
Assists with data collection and project documentation.
Updates drawings using CAD/BIM software under senior engineer guidance.
Assists in client presentations, shop drawing review and contract administration.
Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
Follows policies and standards.
