Job summary

Family Dollar in Bessemer, AL is hiring part-time associates to support daily store operations and customer service. You will assist with merchandising, restocking, opening/closing procedures, and adherence to company policies. The role includes training Store Associates and helping maintain a clean, friendly store environment.

Ideal candidates have strong communication skills, a customer-focused mindset, and the ability to lift up to 55 lbs. Prior retail experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives is required.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs. and meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills are required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational, and communication skills are required.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns
• Organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed
• Process corporate directives and store communications
• Maintain promotional fixtures and displays
• Assist in ordering merchandise and handling damaged goods; payroll, scheduling, cash deposits/receipts, and loss prevention
• Maintain a clean, well-stocked store and organized stockroom
• Protect store assets, including cash
• Adhere to policies and safety guidelines and train/guide store associates
• Foster a positive, safe, respectful environment with customers and staff
• Ensure store cleanliness and restocking of bathrooms, floors, and waste areas
• Other duties as assigned
