Job summary

Family Dollar in Columbia, SC is seeking an Assistant Store Manager to lead daily store operations, support customer service, and develop the store team. You will assist with opening/closing, merchandising, payroll/scheduling, and loss prevention to meet company standards.

The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred; ability to read, interpret, and explain directives is required.
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment is preferred.
• Must be able to lift up to 55 lbs and meet demands of frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and written skills are required.
• Ability to work in a high-energy, team environment is required.
• Exceptional customer service, organizational and communication skills are required.
• Strong problem solving and decision-making skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with store functions and day-to-day store activities.
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address questions or concerns.
• Help organize and transfer merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom to sales floor and maintain seasonal areas.
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed.
• Process corporate directives and communications related to store activities.
• Maintain promotional fixtures and displays for optimal impact.
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged merchandise, record keeping, payroll and scheduling, and loss prevention.
• Maintain a well-stocked, organized sales floor and stockroom to company standards.
• Protect and secure all company assets, including store cash.
• Adhere to policies and safety guidelines; ensure associates follow policies.
• Help Store Manager supervise, train, and develop Store Associates.
• Ensure a positive, safe, and respectful environment for customers and staff.
• Maintain store cleanliness including bathrooms, floors, trash, and neat presentation.
• Other duties as assigned.
