Job summary

Pet Supplies Plus, operated by MPM Retail Holdings, seeks an Assistant Store Team Leader to partner with the Store Team Leader in running the store. You will lead Department Managers and team members, coach leaders, recruit and onboard staff, and drive sales, service, and operations.

As a locally owned franchise, you’ll foster a neighborly environment, ensure safety and merchandising standards, and participate in community events while developing future store leaders.

Qualifications

• Previous retail leadership experience is required; 2+ years preferred.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills are essential.
• Ability to coach, develop, and hold leaders and team members accountable.
• Understanding store performance and identifying opportunities for improvement is important.
• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and ability to learn company systems.
• Dependable with reliable transportation.
• Flexible schedule based on business needs.
• Ability to climb ladders, bend, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to safely operate required store equipment after training.

Responsibilities

• Partner with Store Team Leader in day-to-day leadership and operation of the entire store.
• Provide leadership and direction to Department Managers, Shift Supervisors, and team members.
• Coach and develop store leaders and team members while reinforcing accountability and performance expectations.
• Assist with recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, training, and staffing.
• Help create a positive work environment that promotes engagement and retention.
• Review store performance and identify opportunities to improve sales and operations.
• Ensure merchandising, inventory, animal care, cleanliness, safety, and store conditions meet standards.
• Ensure daily stocking, promotions, truck processing, inventory management, and price changes are executed.
• Resolve escalated neighbor, team member, and operational concerns.
• Support local marketing, community involvement, and store events.
• Take responsibility for store operations in the Store Team Leader's absence.
• Perform other duties as needed.
