GENERAL SUMMARY & SCOPE

The Assistant Services Manager (ASM) leads by embodying Ulta Beauty’s mission, vision, and values. They develop a high-performing team that drives sales in hair and skin services, supports the Experience Manager (EM), and manages all aspects of the services business, including sales, events, guest satisfaction, and operational excellence. The ASM also provides services directly to guests and focuses on performance, people, and process to ensure success.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The ASM champions Ulta Beauty’s mission, demonstrating core values through the following duties:

Performance
  • Perform salon hair services, makeup applications, skincare analysis, and product demonstrations.
  • Achieve weekly individual productivity goals.
  • Promote accountability to meet or exceed sales, guest loyalty, payroll, omni-channel, and retail shrink goals.
  • Drive profitability through operational excellence and top-line sales growth.
  • Support service events aligned with brand standards and sales goals.
  • Analyze financial and operational reports regularly to inform decisions.
  • Address underperformance and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, products, and services to better serve guests.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and hold team accountable.
People
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and retention of diverse top talent.
  • Build an engaged team that embodies the Ulta Beauty brand through collaboration and communication.
  • Train and develop team members, providing coaching and feedback.
  • Create an inclusive environment that encourages growth and engagement.
  • Support professional development and succession planning.
  • Foster positive relationships with peers and brand partners.
  • Promote service excellence among leadership by sharing best practices.
Process
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Review and respond to company communications promptly.
  • Enforce dress code and store standards.
  • Manage inventory and ordering within budget.
  • Prioritize and execute store tasks using company tools.
  • Protect assets and minimize loss through adherence to procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement and technology adoption.
  • Assist in scheduling to optimize traffic and productivity.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Cosmetology school graduate
  • Cosmetology license or management license as required by law

Experience

  • 2-3+ years in salon management or relevant experience
  • Knowledge of state board regulations and hiring standards
  • Experience with financial management, sales driving, and reporting
  • Leadership experience in talent development and change management

Skills

  • Proficiency in salon techniques and product knowledge
  • Technological proficiency (POS, Microsoft Office, Apple devices)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt
SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Flexible full-time schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Participation in meetings and conferences
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Mobility and frequent standing, bending, reaching, and twisting
  • Ability to lift up to 10 lbs.
  • Use of computers and office devices regularly
