Job summary

Carnegie Mellon University’s SEI is seeking an enthusiastic assistant real-time embedded engineer to work on safety-critical embedded software. You will collaborate with teams across bare-metal systems, RTOSes, FPGAs, and embedded Linux, developing tools and methods to solve government software challenges.

You’ll contribute to design, analysis, and testing while advancing DoW lifecycle practices and high-assurance engineering.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience in a collaborative software development team environment.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, VHDL, Verilog, Python, C#.
  • Experience with bare-metal systems and CMSIS/HAL drivers.
  • Experience with Java, Go, Rust, Ada, MATLAB.
  • Experience with FPGAs and heterogeneous computing boards.
  • Exposure to RTOSes such as VxWorks or Integrity and embedded software development.
  • Experience with I2C, CAN, SPI, RS-232, RS-422.
  • Developed embedded software and performance tests; ability to interpret results.
  • Understanding of the DoW Systems Engineering lifecycle.
  • Strong communication skills; able to convey complex engineering challenges.
  • Willing to work 100% onsite at SEI or customer facility.
  • Able to pass a background check and obtain/maintain DoW security clearance.
  • Willing to travel ~25% outside office.

Responsibilities

  • Understand complex interdependent embedded systems across multiple abstraction levels.
  • Design and develop embedded software tools to analyze, test, and evaluate.
  • Apply systems engineering knowledge to identify weaknesses traced to requirements.
  • Utilize static analysis, dynamic testing, and complexity analysis to uncover weaknesses and vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct research, experimentation, and knowledge-sharing to improve software processes.
