Job summary

Horizon Construction is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join our team in Madison, Wisconsin. This role supports Project Managers, Field Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to manage schedules, budgets, documentation, meetings, change orders, and closeout activities.

This position offers growth toward full Project Manager responsibilities, with involvement in cost tracking, RFIs, submittals, and punch list management on commercial construction projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field or equivalent industry experience.
• Three+ years of construction experience, preferably in project engineering or project management support.
• Strong understanding of construction practices, project controls, contract administration, and building systems.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and construction documents.
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Manage assigned project scopes and coordinate daily activities with subcontractors and field teams.
• Assist with subcontractor buyout, bid reviews, scope development, and contract administration.
• Update and maintain project schedules while identifying risks and proposing solutions.
• Lead project meetings and distribute meeting minutes.
• Conduct regular jobsite visits to review progress, quality, safety, and project performance.
• Prepare and manage change orders, invoices, pay applications, and purchase orders.
• Track project costs and assist with forecasting and budget reviews.
• Oversee RFIs, submittals, document control, and project documentation.
• Own the punch list process from creation through completion.
• Support project closeout activities and lessons learned reviews.
