Job description

The Opportunity to Build Your Career

Are you working in construction but feel like you've hit a wall in your current role?

Or perhaps you're a recent graduate or early-career construction professional who knows you want to progress into Project Management but haven't been given the opportunity to do so?

We're working with an established and highly respected civil contractor that is looking for an Assistant Project Manager to join their growing team.

This isn't a role where you're expected to walk through the door knowing everything.

Training will be provided, you'll work alongside experienced Project Managers, and your responsibilities will grow as your knowledge and confidence develop.

It's an excellent opportunity for someone with 1-2 years of construction experience who wants to take the next step and build a long-term career in Project Management.

What You'll Be Doing

Initially, this will be a predominantly office-based position, giving you the opportunity to learn the commercial and administrative side of construction before gradually taking on more responsibility in the field.

You'll work alongside the Project Management and Operations teams, assisting with:

  • Project coordination and administration.
  • Scheduling and project tracking.
  • Reviewing plans, drawings, specifications and contracts.
  • RFIs, submittals and project documentation.
  • Purchase orders and subcontractor coordination.
  • Tracking costs, budgets and project progress.
  • Assisting with change orders and invoicing.
  • Communicating with clients, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Supporting Project Managers with day-to-day project requirements.
  • Occasionally visiting jobsites to understand what's happening in the field and gain practical experience.

Initially, expect the majority of your time to be office-based, with approximately one day a week in the field. As your experience develops, the role will naturally evolve and you'll take on greater responsibility across the project lifecycle.

Who Are We Looking For?

We're deliberately keeping the experience requirement open.

You could be an:
  • Assistant Project Engineer
  • Junior Project Manager
  • Assistant Superintendent
  • Construction Graduate
  • Or another early-career construction professional looking for a route into Project Management.

We're looking for around 1-2 years of relevant construction experience, ideally within civil construction, site development, utilities, earthwork, grading, paving or related disciplines.

A degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related field would be advantageous, but attitude, aptitude and a genuine desire to progress are just as important.

This Could Be Your Next Step If...
  • You've recently graduated and are looking for your first real opportunity to progress.
  • You're currently a Project Coordinator and want to move toward Project Management.
  • You're working in the field and want to understand the commercial side of construction.
  • You've gained some construction experience but don't see a clear progression path where you are.
  • You're ambitious but haven't been given the opportunity to take on more responsibility.
  • You want to learn from experienced professionals rather than being thrown in at the deep end.
  • You'd like to build a long-term career with a company that will invest in your development.
Where This Role Can Take You

The intention is for this position to evolve with you.

You'll start by supporting experienced Project Managers, learning the systems, processes and commercial side of construction. As your knowledge develops, you'll gradually take ownership of more aspects of your projects.

The long-term goal is to develop you into a Project Manager capable of independently managing civil construction projects.

What You'll Get
  • Performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Excellent benefits package.
  • Training and mentoring from experienced construction professionals.
  • Predominantly office-based position initially.
  • Regular field exposure and hands-on project experience.
  • Clear opportunity for career progression.
  • The chance to build a genuine long-term career in Project Management.
  • Work with an established contractor with a strong reputation and project pipeline.

If you're ambitious, eager to learn and ready for the next chapter of your construction career, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.
