Assistant Project Manager: About the Opportunity

A growing heavy civil and site development contractor is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join its team in Western Massachusetts. This organization specializes in earthwork, excavation, utility installation, site development, grading, and infrastructure projects throughout the region.

Position Overview

The Assistant Project Manager will play a critical role in supporting project planning, coordination, documentation, procurement, budgeting, scheduling, and field operations. This position offers significant growth potential for candidates seeking to advance into Project Management and leadership roles within a fast‑paced construction environment.

Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Administration

• Assist Project Managers in planning and executing heavy civil construction projects
• Support development of project schedules, budgets, scopes of work, and resource plans
• Track project progress and provide regular status updates
• Prepare meeting minutes, RFIs, submittals, procurement logs, and daily reports
• Assist with estimating, invoicing, cost tracking, and project documentation

Field Operations Support

• Coordinate activities with field supervisors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers
• Participate in progress meetings with project stakeholders
• Review plans, specifications, and project documents to ensure successful execution
• Assist with procurement, material tracking, and delivery coordination
• Support project teams in resolving field issues and maintaining project momentum

Safety & Quality

• Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress and identify potential issues
• Promote adherence to company safety standards and OSHA regulations
• Assist in identifying and mitigating jobsite risks
• Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout project execution
• Assist in managing project budgets and cost controls
• Track project scope changes and support change order documentation
• Coordinate with project teams on contract administration and project reporting
• Support procurement and subcontractor management activities

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience in construction project coordination, project engineering, estimating, or project management
• Heavy civil, site development, utility, excavation, or infrastructure construction experience preferred
• Strong understanding of construction plans, specifications, and project documentation
• Experience with Procore or similar construction management software
• Strong organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
• Massachusetts Hoisting License (2A/1C)
• OSHA 10 Certification
