Job description

About B&L Glass

B&L Glass is an established glass and glazing contractor serving commercial and residential customers throughout the North Bay. Our Residential / Heavy Glass division handles custom shower enclosures, mirrors, glass railings, architectural glass, and other specialty glass installations.

About the Position

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Assistant Project Manager for our Residential / Heavy Glass division. This position reports to the Senior Project Manager and supports projects from award through closeout.

This is not an administrative role. We are looking for someone with construction experience who can read and interpret plans and specifications, pull out the information needed to move a project forward, and identify what needs to be done without waiting for step-by-step direction.

You will independently manage assigned responsibilities, own project documentation and closeout, and help build relationships with new and existing general contractors.

Project Coordination & Execution
  • Independently coordinate assigned project activities, deadlines, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Review construction drawings, specifications, and project documents to identify scope, materials, requirements, and discrepancies, and initiate clarification when information is missing or conflicting.
  • Prepare and maintain project files, job packets, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and other required documentation.
  • Coordinate with purchasing, vendors, field operations, and scheduling so materials and information are available when needed.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively identify outstanding items, delays, or potential problems.
  • Maintain accurate and current project information in BuildOps.
Contractor & Customer Communication
  • Reach out to new and existing general contractors and builders to set up introductory and customer calls with the Senior Project Manager.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with general contractor accounts, and follow up on opportunities and outstanding information.
  • Communicate professionally with general contractors, builders, homeowners, vendors, and internal team members.
  • Track commitments and follow through to resolution without requiring repeated reminders.
Estimating & Technical Support
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and gather material pricing and vendor quotes to support estimates.
  • Assist in preparing proposals, pricing revisions, and change orders.
  • Learn our product lines, hardware, manufacturer specifications, and safety glazing requirements on your own initiative rather than waiting to be trained.
Project Documentation & Closeout
  • Own closeout packages from start to finish, including warranties, product data, care and maintenance information, as-built documentation when required, punch list completion, and other contract deliverables.
  • Track closeout requirements throughout the project rather than waiting until completion.
  • Assist with project cost tracking, billing preparation, and outstanding change orders.
  • Ensure assigned project documentation is complete, accurate, and submitted on time.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction project coordination, assistant project management, estimating, or a closely related role.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications. Candidates will be asked to walk through a plan set during the interview.
  • Hands‑on experience preparing submittals, RFIs, change orders, and closeout packages.
  • Ability to independently prioritize tasks, research information, and follow through on assignments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort initiating calls with contractors.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in glass and glazing, residential construction, architectural specialties, or a related construction trade.
  • Experience with construction estimating and material takeoffs.
  • Experience with Bluebeam or similar plan review software.
  • Familiarity with construction project management software such as BuildOps, Procore, or similar platforms.
  • Experience communicating directly with general contractors and coordinating project documentation.
What Success Looks Like
  • Can review a set of plans and identify the information needed to move a project forward.
  • Takes ownership of assigned tasks from beginning to completion.
  • Anticipates upcoming project requirements and addresses them before they become problems.
  • Learns new products and requirements on their own and asks informed questions when clarification is needed.
  • Builds closeout packages as the project progresses and delivers them on time.
  • Keeps regular contact with general contractors and sets up customer calls without being asked.
  • Produces accurate, complete project documentation without constant oversight.
