The Department of Theatre and Dance at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, invites applications for a 9-month, full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre commencing fall semester 2027. The position is contingent on funding. Start Date: August 16, 2027

With approximately 100 majors, the Department of Theatre and Dance offers a B.A. in theatre as well as B.F.A degrees in performance, musical theatre, design & technology, and management. The department is housed in a dedicated theatre facility including a 340-seat house with proscenium/thrust stage, a black box performance space, studio theatre, design studio, fully equipped shops, a dance/movement studio, a vocal studio, a smart classroom, and a computer lab. Auburn University is a comprehensive land grant, R-1 institution, one of the largest in Alabama, with an enrollment of nearly 30,000 students, within easy driving distance of Atlanta, Birmingham, and Montgomery. Auburn is home to the Gogue Performing Arts Center (GPAC), a professional performance venue that offers exciting opportunities for visiting artist workshops and other collaborations.

Teach five courses per academic year on a 3:2 load (3 courses one semester, 2 the other). Teaching areas may include theatre history, dramaturgy, text analysis, and introduction to theatre, in addition to advanced topical seminars in literature, history, theory, and/or performance praxis.
The successful candidate will be a key member of the B.A. faculty with opportunities to shape curricular development. Involvement in the production season is possible, subject to qualifications and departmental needs.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Theatre by the time employment begins. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a proven record of publications and strong teaching abilities, along with an achievable research plan for tenure and promotion in an R-1 environment.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.
