The Department of Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking to expand its scope and depth through the recruitment of two junior faculty members. We are looking for candidates for tenure-stream positions at the Assistant Professor level.
We have a highly collaborative and collegial Department (29 faculty) that forms part of a larger, interactive community of nearly 100 faculty. Our department supports an exceptional Graduate Training Program, hosts two training grants, and organizes a robust weekly seminar series along with multiple retreats and events that foster interactions among basic, translational, and clinical immunologists. The Department of Immunology is ranked 7th in the US and 11th in the world (Research.com). It also hosts The Center for Systems Immunology (CSI), focused on analyzing and engineering molecular and cellular networks underlying immune processes in health and disease.
The department recently relocated in 2022 to a new state-of-the-art research facility housed in a building listed on the historical registry. We operate three broadly used research cores, including flow cytometry, CRISPR-Cas9-mediated gene targeting, and computational immunogenomics. The University of Pittsburgh is located in the Oakland and Shadyside neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, a safe, progressive, and affordable city with emerging technologies and rich cultural and public institutions. Pittsburgh is consistently ranked among the top most livable cities in the US and worldwide. The University offers an exciting research environment that ranks third in NIH funding among US medical schools. The Pitt School of Medicine is well-positioned for both basic and translational research. The startup package, salary, and benefits are highly competitive.
The successful candidates for the Assistant Professor position will have a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent), at least seven years of research experience, and a strong publication record in immunology from their pre- and postdoctoral work.
