The Department of Immunology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine is seeking to expand its scope and depth through the recruitment of two junior faculty members. We are hiring for tenure-stream positions at the Assistant Professor level.
Our department is highly collaborative and collegial, comprising 29 faculty members within a larger community of nearly 100 faculty. We support an exceptional Graduate Training Program, host two training grants, and organize a weekly seminar series along with retreats and programming events that foster interactions among basic, translational, and clinical immunologists. The Department of Immunology is ranked 7th in the US and 11th in the world (Research.com). Additionally, we host The Center for Systems Immunology (CSI), focused on analyzing and engineering molecular and cellular networks underlying immune processes in health and disease.
In 2022, the department relocated to a new, state-of-the-art research facility housed in a building listed on the historical registry. We operate three broadly used research cores, including flow cytometry, CRISPR-Cas9-mediated gene targeting, and computational immunogenomics. The University of Pittsburgh is located in the Oakland and Shadyside neighborhoods of Pittsburgh, a safe, progressive, and affordable city with emerging technology sectors, rich cultural and public institutions, and consistently ranked among the most livable cities in the US and worldwide. The University is ranked third in NIH funding for research. The Pitt School of Medicine offers an exciting research environment conducive to both basic and translational research. The startup package, salary, and benefits will be highly competitive.
The successful candidates for the Assistant Professor position should have a PhD and/or MD (or equivalent), at least seven years of research experience, and a strong publication record in immunology from both pre- and postdoctoral work. We welcome applicants working in any area of immunology. Our long-term goal is to grow a diverse and strong department that fosters major research advances through cross-disciplinary collaborations.
The preferred application receipt date is July 1, 2025, but we will consider applications at any time until the positions are filled.
