Non-Tenure Stream Faculty Position
University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and Concussion Research Laboratory at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine are recruiting a full-time faculty member for a non-tenure stream research faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.

One of the nation’s leading concussion clinical research programs, the UPMC Sports Medicine Concussion Program and Concussion Research Laboratory conducts a wide range of concussion clinical and brain health-related research, including clinical trials and observational research involving sport, pediatric, older adult, and military service member populations. Our research focuses on topics including active targeted treatments, multidomain assessments, prognosis, long-term effects, neuroimaging, and biomarkers. We are seeking candidates who can contribute to ongoing research efforts and help grow and expand our research program.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Contributing to and maintaining a nationally and internationally recognized clinical concussion research program;
  • Producing concussion and brain health-related clinical research papers for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals;
  • Developing independent research programs within the Program/Lab;
  • Presenting symposia, lectures, and posters at local, regional, national, and international professional conferences;
  • Supporting the research and clinical/executive directors on papers, grant applications, presentations, and other activities;
  • Collaborating on research activities with other clinical and research faculty and fellows in the program, as well as faculty from other departments and institutions;
  • Advising and mentoring undergraduate, graduate, and medical students, as well as residents and fellows;
  • Participating in departmental and university committees;
  • Serving the profession through relevant professional activities, including journal and grant reviews.
Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate (PhD) in health sciences, kinesiology, psychology, neuroscience, rehabilitation science, or similar field with an emphasis on clinical concussion or brain health-related research (required);
  • Track record of peer-reviewed publications in clinical concussion and/or brain health-related research (required);
  • Experience conducting and leading clinical research projects in concussion (required);
  • Grant writing capability and demonstrated potential for external funding (required);
  • Post-doctoral fellowship training in clinical concussion or brain health-related research (preferred);
  • Experience working independently and as part of a collaborative team (preferred).

Rank and Title: Appointment at the rank of Research Assistant Professor is anticipated.

Tenure: This is a non-tenure stream, full-time position.

Proposed Starting Date: August 2025.
