Basic Function

Under the direction of the Dean, the faculty member is responsiblefor providing academic instruction to students for the assignedgraduate courses. The faculty member will serve as a mentor tostudents; contribute to department and university activities asneeded; and provide service to faculty and/or university committeesas outlined in the faculty handbook.

The Department of Learning & Teaching offers credentialprograms in Multiple Subject (elementary), Single Subject(secondary), and Educational Specialists (Mild to Moderate SupportNeeds, Extensive Support Needs, and Deaf and Hard of Hearing).Common responsibilities for the position include teaching in theprograms, student advisement, and service to the university andbroader community.

Representative Duties

• Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching 24units/year.
• Provide academic instruction to students through lecture, lab,or performance courses; create assignments and activities inone-on-one, classroom, and distance mediated instructional settingsfor development of cognitive abilities, communication skills, andhigher order thinking skills among students.
• Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting courseobjectives and student learning outcomes through assignments,projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback in atimely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or duringestablished consultation office hours.
• Integrate current and emerging instructional deliverytechnologies into the learning process across classroom and onlinesettings.
• Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment,attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum; prepareand submit grades, data, and reports related to course and studentprogress in a timely manner.
• Teach and hold office hours in person on campus, at least 4days per week.
• Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within thefirst week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising,service, and scholarly, professional, and creative activities forAssistant Professors as outlined in the faculty handbook.
• Participate in service to the department, school, university,and P-22/K-12 community.
• Attend departmental and school-wide meetings.
• Support teacher candidates in completing their edTPA.
• Contribute to accreditation activities as needed.
• Evening and weekend hours may be required.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a master's degree in education, educationalleadership, special education, or a related field and P-22 teachingexperience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possession of an appropriate earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.)in education, educational leadership, or a related field (requiredfor tenure track positions; ABD will be accepted).
• 3-5 years of K-12 experience with evidence of sustainedteaching effectiveness and research to drive instruction.
• Understanding of bilingual and dual language immersioneducation and effective biliteracy instruction within CaliforniaK-12 schools.
• Successful involvement with university-public schoolpartnerships.
• Pedagogical experience with hybrid or online teachingstrategies.
