Basic Function:

Under the direction of the Dean and Math Department Chair, theAssistant Professor is responsible for providing academicinstruction to students for the assigned undergraduate courses. TheAssistant Professor is to serve as an academic advisor to students;contribute to department and university activities; serve onfaculty or university committees; engage in scholarly activities,and/or creative endeavors. The successful candidate will contributeto an inclusive and student-centered learning environment anddemonstrate a commitment to supporting the academic success andsense of belonging of students from diverse backgrounds and levelsof academic preparation.

Representative Duties:

• Primary responsibilities for this position include teaching DataScience and Math courses (24 units/year): E
• Provide academic instruction to students through lecture courses.Create assignments and activities in one-on-one, classroom, anddistance mediated instructional settings for development ofcognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher orderthinking skills among students. E
• Observe and evaluate student performance in meeting courseobjectives and student learning outcomes through assignments,projects, discussions, and examinations; provide feedback inatimely manner to student inquiries in class, online, or duringestablished consultation office hours. E
• Maintain current, accurate records of course enrollment,attendance, student academic progress, course curriculum; prepareand submit grades, data, and reports related to course and studentprogress in a timely manner. E
• Teach and hold office hours in person on campus, at least 4 daysper week. E
• Provide a course syllabus to students in each class within thefirst week of the class, as outlined in the faculty handbook.E
• Adhere to the responsibilities related to teaching, advising,service, and scholarly, professional, and creative activities forAssistant Professors as outlined in the faculty handbook. E

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing using tact,patience, and courtesy
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships

Minimum Qualifications:

A Ph.D. in Data Science is preferred; terminal degrees in closelyaligned fields will also be considered. Relevant fields of studymay include Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, PredictiveAnalytics, Applied or Computational Mathematics, Applied orComputational Statistics, or other closely related areas.Candidates who are ABD will also be considered and, if selected,will be appointed at the rank of Instructor.
