  • Staff inpatient and outpatient consultations with faculty, house staff, and community physicians; focus on all malignancies and malignant and benign hematology.

Job description

Overview

Full‑time faculty member in the Department of Internal Medicine, serving as a Clinical Teacher with a major commitment to education and scholarly activities related to education, leadership, administration, and promotion of excellence in clinical care.

Responsibilities

Administrative (5%)

  • Academic consideration time (.05 FTE)
  • Assume other divisional and departmental administrative responsibilities as directed by the Division Chief

Teaching (15%)

  • Teach, mentor, and supervise students, residents, and fellows during inpatient and outpatient consultations and follow‑up visits.
  • Prepare and deliver lectures, seminars, conferences, and rounds for learners in the Hematology/Oncology elective and other academic learners.
  • Provide periodic seminars and educational sessions for the division.
  • Prepare conferences for the Department of Internal Medicine.

Research and Training (10%)

As defined by individual interests and in compliance with department policy.

Service (70%)

  1. Professional Services
  2. Complete inpatient and outpatient consultations by full‑time SIU clinical faculty, house staff, and community physicians.
  3. Develop and maintain professional practice in accordance with departmental policy.
  4. Maintain a full‑time clinical teaching effort of 77.5% (including 7.5% clinical teaching); achieve a minimum target of 4,385 RVUs per year (5,658 RVUs = 1.0 CFTE).
  5. Participate in university, SIU H&C, and hospital committees as requested.

Specific clinical duties include:

  • Staffing the inpatient service equally among physician faculty, including on‑call coverage accompanied by fellows and residents.
  • Sub‑specialty focus: all malignancies and malignant and benign hematology.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  1. Sensitivity to the needs of under‑represented minority populations.
  2. Graduate of an accredited medical school program.
  3. Graduate of a formal specialty training program in Hematology and Medical Oncology.
  4. Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine or eligibility for ABIM.
  5. Diplomate of the American Board of Hematology or eligibility for the Hematology board.
  6. Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Oncology or eligibility for the Medical Oncology board.
  7. Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Illinois or licensed by the State of Illinois prior to employment.
  8. Experience providing services to multicultural populations.
Desirable Qualifications

Experience working in an academic environment, both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Compensation

The budgeted annual salary range is $350,000 to $385,000, representing the academic base salary only and is funded through the University. Additional clinical compensation will be provided separately through a member practice agreement.
