Job summary

Xavier University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Social Work beginning Fall 2027. The successful candidate will teach at the BSW and MSW levels, develop curriculum, pursue grants, and advise students, with emphasis on equity and engaged learning.

The open-rank position requires a doctoral degree (MSW with related credentials considered) and distance teaching experience, with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Job description

Position Overview

Current Xavier University employees must apply to the internal career site by logging into Workday Assistant Professor, MSW Program. The College of Health and Human Services at Xavier University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position in the Department of Social Work beginning Fall 2027. This tenure-track teaching position will be primarily assigned to the MSW Program currently in pre-candidacy. Xavier University seeks experienced, innovative, and highly motivated candidates for a full-time, open-rank, tenure track faculty.

Responsibilities include teaching at the BSW and MSW levels, curriculum and program development, pursuing grant opportunities, academic student advising, participating in department/college/university/community service, and developing a scholarly agenda. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered pedagogy, social justice, and engaged learning and have distance teaching and course development experience.

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree.
• While a doctoral degree in social work is preferred, related doctoral degrees will also be considered;
• A master’s social work degree from a CSWE-accredited program (or a CASWE-accredited degree recognized through an MOU with CSWE, or an ISWDRES-evaluated degree);
• Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to working as part of a collaborative team;
• Passion for exciting and motivating students from diverse backgrounds;
• Contribution to a campus climate that supports equity, diversity, and inclusion.

Desirable Qualifications

• At least two (2) years of post-master’s social work degree practice experience in social work;
• Previous full-time experience with instruction in social work education;
• Ability to teach across the curriculum, particularly policy and research courses;
• Experience with CSWE accreditation standards and processes.
• Demonstrated experience with program and curriculum development and management.
• Experience with online teaching and/or distance education program.
• Record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

Position Details

Position: Nine-month faculty contract with summer teaching opportunities.

Salary/Rank: Assistant/Associate professor with salary commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Teaching Load: The teaching expectation is 18 credit hours annually for this tenure-track faculty position when a faculty member meets the College's active scholarship standards.
