Xavier University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Speech, Language and Communication Sciences to begin Fall 2027. The successful candidate will help build a new academic program from the ground up and strengthen the undergraduate curriculum in speech-language pathology.

The teaching load is 18 credits annually, with opportunities to shape graduate-level curriculum as the program develops toward a planned 2031 launch.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a closely related field; ABD candidates may be considered if all requirements are completed by Aug 1, 2027.
• CCC-SLP certification from ASHA, or eligibility to obtain prior to appointment.
• Experience supervising students in clinical, practicum, CFY, or similar settings.
• Evidence of effective college/university teaching or demonstrated potential for teaching excellence.
• Evidence of an active or emerging research agenda with potential for continued scholarly productivity.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• Commitment to student advising and mentoring and alignment with Xavier's Jesuit Catholic mission.

Responsibilities

The Department of Speech, Language, and Communication Sciences(SLCS) at Xavier University invites applications for a full-time,tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor beginningFall 2027. We seek a collaborative teacher-scholar who is excitedto help build a new academic program from the ground up and whoseteaching and clinical expertise will strengthen the Department'sundergraduate curriculum in speech-language pathology.

The teaching expectation is 18 credit hours annually for thistenure-track faculty position when a faculty member meets theCollege’s active scholarship standards.

SLCS currently offers an undergraduate program in speech, language,and communication sciences, with a graduate program inspeech-language pathology planned to launch in 2031. Consistentwith Xavier University's mission, the Department seeks to equipstudents with the competence and conscience necessary to serveindividuals with communication disorders and the professionals andcommunities who support them.

The successful candidate will:

• Teach undergraduate courses in speech-language pathology, withthe opportunity to help shape graduate-level curriculum as theDepartment's graduate program develops toward its planned 2031launch;
• Supervise students in clinical and practicum experiences aspart of SLCS's experiential learning sequence;
• Maintain an active research agenda;
• Advise and mentor undergraduate (and, in time, graduate)students; and
• Participate in departmental, university, professional, andcommunity service.

Required Qualifications

• A Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Sciencesand Disorders, or a closely related field. ABD candidates may beconsidered provided that all requirements for the doctorate will becompleted by August 1, 2027.
• A Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-LanguagePathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-HearingAssociation (ASHA), or eligibility to obtain CCC-SLP prior toappointment.
• Experience supervising students in a clinical, practicum, orclinical fellowship (CFY) setting (any one of these issufficient).
• Evidence of effective college- or university-level teaching ordemonstrated potential for teaching excellence.
• Evidence of an active or emerging research agenda and potentialfor continued scholarly productivity.
• Effective written and oral communication skills.
• A commitment to student advising and mentoring.
• A commitment to the missions of the Department of Speech,Language, and Communication Sciences and Xavier University,including Xavier's Jesuit Catholic educational tradition.

Preferred Qualifications

• We welcome applicants with clinical and research interestsacross all areas of speech-language pathology.
• Experience or interest in contributing to the development of anew academic program.
• Experience teaching undergraduate courses in speech-languagepathology or communication sciences and disorders.
