The Department of EALL is among the largest departments of its kind in the country and offers a curriculum unparalleled in its breadth and scope in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language, linguistics, literature, and culture. We offer B.A. degrees in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean; MA & PhD in East Asian Languages and Literatures, with concentrations on Chinese, Japanese, and Korean Linguistics and Literature.

Teach undergraduate content courses and Japanese language courses (introductory to advanced);
Teach graduate courses in area of specialization;
Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students;
Serve on thesis/dissertation committees;
Maintain an active agenda of scholarly research and publication in area(s) of specialization;
Contribute service at the department, college, university, and community levels;
Other duties as assigned by the Chair.
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Japanese Language, Japanese Linguistics, or closely related field from a college or university of recognized standing (ABD will be considered; all requirements for degree must be completed by August 2027);
Demonstrated experience in teaching at the college level;
Demonstrated expertise in Japanese pedagogy;
Evidence of scholarly activity in the field of specialization;
High level of proficiency in Japanese and English;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
Ability to develop courses in interdisciplinary fields;
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and service at the college level;
Research capability in an additional area of Japanese linguistics beyond Japanese Pedagogy
