Duties and Responsibilities

Teach 24 credits per academic year in American Sign Language (ASL) at all undergraduate levels;

Develop curriculum and teaching materials toward a full four-year ASL program;

Coordinate curricula, and ensure articulation between levels and between UH campuses;

Contribute service at the department, college, university, and community levels.

Minimum Qualifications

Either: (a) M.A. degree in American Sign Language, Sign Language Teaching, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, Education, or a related field; or (b) B.A. degree in American Sign Language, Sign Language Teaching, Deaf Studies, Sign Linguistics or a related field with three years of full or part-time teaching ASL at the college or university level;

Native or near-native proficiency in ASL;

Demonstrated involvement in the Deaf community.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, faculty, staff, and administration.

Desirable Qualifications

5 years or more of experience teaching ASL at the university level;

Experience with curriculum development;

ASLTA certification;

Familiarity with ASL-English interpreter training requirements.
