Job summary

Simpson Strong-Tie is seeking an Assistant Production Supervisor in Stockton, CA to assist the Production Supervisor with daily management of the department and workforce on the shop floor.

You will help drive performance, coach staff, and implement improvements while ensuring safety and quality standards are met across production lines. Travel is required up to 5%.

Qualifications

  • 2 year degree, technical school certificate in Business, or equivalent preferred.
  • 4 years experience supervising in a manufacturing setting required.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs and techniques for maximizing manufacturing efficiency.
  • Active listening and comprehension skills to understand coworkers and follow instructions.
  • Critical thinking to identify root causes and implement improvements.
  • Ability to monitor and assess performance for improvements.
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel, and Outlook for reporting and communication.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of process control and lean manufacturing concepts.
  • Mathematics including arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics.

  • Lead and direct department employees; manage performance expectations, provide feedback, and develop growth plans (50%).
  • Analyze workflows and data; suggest improvements; generate reports and drive efficiency projects (50%).

YOU

As an Assistant Production Supervisor, you will assist the Production Supervisor in managing the employees within the department. You will also assist the Production Supervisor in ensuring work is being completed efficiently and effectively throughout the department.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING (% of Time)
  • Lead, motivate and direct employees using effective performance management techniques, including establishing expectations and goals, providing recognition and feedback, and addressing performance problems. Troubleshoots and problem solves through root cause analysis. Helps in developing a continuous improvement culture. Creates growth plans for reports and engages all production employees. Leads by example. Coach, encourage, and develop employees according to their unique interests and strengths. Empower employees to take responsibility for their career and performance. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback. Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members and the organization. Have a presence on the shop floor to assist and guide leads and employees with daily tasks. (50%)
  • Monitor workflow processes while looking for improvement opportunities. Analyze data, such as productivity reports, errors, and schedules, daily and make recommendations for improvement accordingly. Partner with other branches and places of knowledge to learn Simpson practices and gain new ideas to put into practice. Create reports, spreadsheets and presentations. Design and drive programs which will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the department. (50%)
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • 2 year degree, technical school certificate in Business, or equivalent Preferred.
  • 4 years experience supervising in a manufacturing setting Required.
  • Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.
  • Active Listening: The ability to give full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Critical Thinking: The ability to use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Monitoring: The ability to monitor/assess your own performance and others' to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Written Comprehension: The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing.
  • Microsoft Office: The ability to effectively use Word, Excel, and Outlook to carry out work.
  • Oral Comprehension: The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
  • Process Control Analysis: The ability to conduct tests and inspections of processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Lean Manufacturing: Knowledge of elimination of waste, continuous improvement, S5, Kaizen, Quality Built In, JIT, Kanban, and levelized production.
  • Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
TRAVEL REQUIRED

This position requires domestic travel up to 5% of the time.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This full-time, exempt position is located in Stockton, CA.

RELOCATION

Relocation is not available for this position.

PAY

$64,000 - $102,400 / year
