Job summary

Simpson Strong‑Tie is seeking a press operator to support stamping operations in Columbus, OH. The role requires standing for long periods, lifting up to 40 lbs, and performing quality checks per blueprints using precision tools.

You will work with department leadership on improvements, manage press set-ups and changeovers, and help maintain 6S standards while following safety practices. Training and growth opportunities are offered.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred and 1 year related experience.
  • Safety-conscious with reliable, punctual attendance.
  • Able to stand long hours and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Read tape measures to 1/32
  • measure angles with a protractor to +/-1° and use micrometer/caliper.
  • Understand English instructions in various formats and communicate clearly.
  • Basic math and computer/screen touchscreen tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate automatic stamping presses to support department and company goals.
  • Use powered hand tools to adjust equipment as needed.
  • Communicate with department leadership about issues and improvements; assist press set-ups and changeovers.
  • Perform quality inspections to blueprints and specifications using precision tools; maintain 6S standards.
  • Count, package and palletize finished product per work orders; ensure auxiliary equipment operates to standard.

What You’ll Be Doing (% of Time)
  • Operate automatic stamping presses as needed to support department and company goals.
  • Use powered hand tools to make adjustments to equipment as necessary. (70%)
  • Communicate with department leadership regarding issues and improvements. Assist other associates with press set‑ups and changeovers. (10%)
  • Perform quality inspections to blueprints and specifications using provided precision measuring tools and maintain a clean work environment to meet 6S standards. (10%)
  • Count, package and palletize finished product in accordance with work orders. Ensure auxiliary equipment is operating to standard. (10%)
Desired Skills and Experience

If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred. 1 year Related experience and/or training preferred.

Safety: Able to consistently prioritize safety by demonstrating safe work practices and by promoting a safe work environment.

Accountability & Dependability: Able to consistently demonstrate reliable, punctual attendance.

Physical Demands: Able to remain standing the entire duration of shift, and lift up to 40 lbs using proper technique consistently.

Mathematical Reasoning: Able to apply basic math skills.

Instruction Comprehension: Able to comprehend a variety of instructions furnished in English, including written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Communication: Able to communicate one‑on‑one and in small group settings.

Measurements: Able to read a tape measure to 1/32” tolerance, to use protractor to measure angles to +/- 1 degree and ability to use and read a micrometer, and caliper.

Problem Solving: Ability to identify options for solving a problem encountered during the manufacturing process.

Computer Skills: Able to use computer or touchscreen to perform daily tasks and required training.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. This role operates large equipment while standing for approximately 8-12 hours, regularly twisting and bending in a repetitive motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently lift, carry, push and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with proper equipment.

The job may risk exposure to heat and/or cold, loud noise levels, vibration, and moving mechanical parts.

Travel required: This position does not require travel.

Work Status & Location

This full‑time, non‑exempt position is located in Columbus, OH. Relocation is not available for this position.

Pay

PAY $16.44 - $24.66 / hour
