Job summary

State-of-Missour is seeking a mid-level Park Manager at Hawn State Park to oversee facilities, grounds, campground operations, visitor services, and budget planning. The role involves supervising seasonal staff, enforcing park rules, and coordinating resource stewardship activities including prescribed fire.

Successful candidates will hold a related degree, demonstrate integrity and accountability, and possess a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in park management or related field could include park management, wildlife management, forestry, biology, natural sciences, or public administration.
  • Lean Six Sigma or related continuous improvement training is preferred (e.g., Missouri Way, Leadership Academy).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to lift 25 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a mid-level manager assisting in management of all aspects of Hawn State Park.
  • Manage facilities, grounds, campground operation, visitor services, budgeting, procurement, and resources.
  • Supervise seasonal maintenance staff; conduct safety meetings and ensure safety.
  • Engage in resource stewardship activities, including prescribed fire.
  • Enforce park rules and regulations professionally and safely.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and permits; respond to emergencies.
  • Act in the absence of the Park Superintendent with sound judgement.

Please note: The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years-of-service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

This position will be located at Hawn State Park, 12096 Park Drive Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670. Regular Days off will be Saturday and Sunday, Shift time is 7:30 am - 4:00 pm with a ½ hour unpaid lunch.

  • Serve as a mid-level manager to assist in the management of all aspects the Hawn State Park.
  • Assist in the management of facilities and grounds, infrastructure, campground operation, visitor services, revenue collection, budget planning and procurement, employee relations, and natural and cultural resources.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate seasonal maintenance staff in the areas of safety, risk management, equipment operations, and facility maintenance. Conduct monthly safety meetings.
  • Assist in resource stewardship activities to include prescribed fire.
  • Enforce park rules and regulations in a courteous, safe, and professional manner.
  • Ensure facilities comply with all applicable laws, policies and procedures and permits.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, personal injuries, natural disasters, lost hikers and other significant events within the park.
  • Act in the absence of Park Superintendent, using sound judgement in making decisions.
  • This position must complete Level 1 Fire Training or equivalent within 12 months of employment.
  • This position may be required to obtain and maintain other required licenses/certifications. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given 12 months to obtain necessary license/certifications.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university can include: Park Management, Parks and Recreations, Wildlife Management, Forestry, Botany, Biology, Natural Sciences, Business of Public Administration or related field
  • Training, certification, and/or education in continuous process improvement programs such as Lean Six Sigma as well as completion of Missouri Way, Leadership Academy, and similar programs is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special Job Requirements:
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts. Must work a minimum of two weekends per month during on season April through October.
  • Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.
  • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds
