We seek a scholar with a clearly identifiable program of research focused on reading instruction, assessment, and intervention. This faculty member will teach undergraduate and graduate literacy and reading methods courses for teacher and reading specialist candidates in programs leading to Texas teacher certification. The successful candidate will demonstrate expertise in evidence-based literacy practices that reflect the linguistic variation, demographics, and educational needs of Texas educators and students, including multilingual populations.
This position requires excellence in teaching, active scholarly engagement, and meaningful service to the program, department, college, university, and profession. Appointment at the Associate Professor rank will require meeting Texas State University and Department of Curriculum and Instruction standards for appointment with tenure.
Housed in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Texas State University’s Reading Education program prepares initial teacher candidates and certified educators across elementary, middle, and secondary school settings. Alongside its graduate degree and Reading Specialist certification tracks, the program actively supports undergraduate initial teacher education by delivering foundational reading methods and assessment-driven literacy instruction. Aligned with International Literacy Association (ILA) and Texas Education Agency (TEA) standards, the program equips candidates to design and implement evidence-based reading instruction, assess language and literacy development, and support culturally and linguistically varied learners. Ultimately, the overall aim of the program is to advance student literacy outcomes across Texas and beyond by cultivating reflective teacher-scholars who engage in field-based research, curriculum development, and school-wide literacy leadership.
