Job summary

AlexRenew is seeking an Assistant Operations Manager to help direct daily operations of the WRRF, pumps, and interceptor systems. The role supports Operations Supervisors, monitors performance, maintains records, and ensures safety and regulatory compliance.

The incumbent may act on behalf of the Operations Manager and works swing shifts to back afternoon/evening and overnight staff. The position requires a strong background in water/wastewater operations, supervisory experience, SCADA

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in water or wastewater related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in wastewater utility.
• Virginia Wastewater Works Operator Class 1 License or ability to obtain within one year.
• Experience with SCADA, maintenance management systems, regulatory records, emergency response, and safety practices.
• Knowledge of advanced wastewater treatment, pumping/collection systems, and permits.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates daily staffing, shift coverage, priorities, assignments, and handoffs with Operations Supervisors; follows up and escalates issues.
• Monitors plant processes and collection system infrastructure via SCADA and lab results; directs operating adjustments.
• Participates in meetings and communicates changes, maintenance, weather impacts, and risks across shifts.
• Supervises and coaches staff; supports performance evaluations and training plans.
• Develops operating schedules, procedures, checklists, and ensures staff competency.
• Reviews logs and regulatory documents; coordinates corrections and escalations for permits or issues.
• Supports maintenance, capital projects, contractor work, and equipment commissioning.
• Assists in emergency response, after-hours coverage, and incident follow-up; notifies stakeholders as required.
• Promotes safe work practices and OSHA compliance; supports Environmental Management System.
• Collaborates with Laboratory, Process, Engineering, and external partners to optimize performance.
