You will partner with the Nurse Manager to oversee clinical operations, staff development, and performance improvements across obstetric services, ensuring quality outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two years of clinical RN experience, with leadership experience preferred.
  • Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
  • Unit/Dept specific certifications may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations of a high-volume Labor & Delivery unit.
  • Provide leadership and clinical support for antepartum, intrapartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Mentor and develop nursing staff; drive engagement and growth initiatives.
  • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, educators and interdisciplinary partners to deliver safe, high-quality care.

Join a highly skilled and collaborative Women's Services leadership team at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center, a Level II Trauma Center and one of the region's busiest maternity programs. As an Assistant Nurse Manager, you'll have the opportunity to lead and develop an exceptional team that helps welcome more than 5,000 babies each year while providing remarkable care to women and families across the continuum of obstetric services.

In this role, you'll find:

  • The opportunity to lead within a 20-bed Labor & Delivery unit and partner closely with our 16-bed Special Maternity unit, caring for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
  • A leadership schedule of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., providing strong operational support during some of the unit's busiest hours.
  • A high-volume, high-acuity environment where strong clinical expertise and leadership make a meaningful impact every day.
  • The ability to care for a diverse patient population, including high-risk pregnancies involving hypertension, preeclampsia, diabetes, and other maternal-fetal complications.

What You'll Do

As the Assistant Nurse Manager for Labor & Delivery, you'll partner with the Nurse Manager to provide clinical, operational, and professional leadership for a dynamic team caring for patients across the continuum of obstetric care. You'll serve as a visible leader, mentor, and resource while fostering a culture centered on safety, accountability, teamwork, and remarkable patient experiences.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting daily operations of a high-volume Labor & Delivery unit that averages 365 to 450 births each month.
  • Providing leadership and clinical support for nurses caring for antepartum, intrapartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Leveraging strong Labor & Delivery clinical expertise to support complex patient populations and rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Serving as a trusted mentor, coach, and resource to nursing staff, helping team members grow professionally while maintaining high standards of clinical practice.
  • Fostering a positive and engaged team culture by promoting accountability, collaboration, recognition, and open communication.
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, retention, and engagement efforts to build and sustain a high-performing team.
  • Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice providers, educators, and interdisciplinary partners to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Monitoring quality, safety, patient experience, and operational metrics while leading and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

    What We're Looking For
    • Education:
      • 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required.
      • BSN, preferred.
      • Graduate Degree, preferred
    • Experience:
      • Minimum of two years of clinical RN experience, preferred.
      • Prior demonstrated nursing leadership, preferred.
    • Licensure/Certification:
      • Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
      • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
      • Unit/Dept Specific Required Certifications.
    • Additional Skills (required):
      • Successful completion of generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to successfully complete Leader Education & Training.
