Job summary

Dear Mama NYC seeks an Assistant Manager to contribute to soulful hospitality at our Harlem cafe on Columbia University campus, working with Owner and Beverage & Service Director to refine processes and lead a team. This hands-on role focuses on execution, staffing, and partnership to drive growth.

You'll manage scheduling, payroll, inventory, and events coordination with the Events Manager, while upholding safety, quality, and the Dear Mama culture of community and care.

Qualifications

• 3–4 years experience in a high-volume restaurant.
• DOH Food Handlers Certification required.
• Strong leadership and teaching abilities.
• Experience managing P&Ls, labor, purchasing, and quality control.
• Collaborative, with excellent communication and organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead front-of-house and support service for dine-in and to-go.
• Hire, train, schedule, and mentor staff.
• Develop and enforce SOPs; coordinate payroll with ownership.
• Collaborate with Events Manager for on/offsite events.
• Manage vendor relations, inventory, and cost control.
• Ensure DOH sanitation standards and a Grade A inspection.
• Balance front- and back-of-house operations for seamless guest experience.
• Hit weekly labor targets and maintain service excellence.
