Job summary

Jacksons Food Stores in Santa Cruz, CA is hiring an Assistant Manager for all shifts. Starting pay is $20-$21 per hour, with benefits including medical, dental, vision, PTO, 401(k) match, and tuition reimbursement.

You will support store operations, coach staff, train new hires, and ensure smooth daily performance alongside the Store Manager. The role requires leadership, excellent communication, and a track record of delivering results in fast-paced retail or food service.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Open availability for a 24/7 operation including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Previous leadership experience supervising teams in food service or retail.
• At least 3 months of customer service experience.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, can-do attitude.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred.
• Legal age to sell alcohol and tobacco and ability to work around slot machines (NV only).
• Demonstrated teamwork and adaptability to changing conditions.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service, greeting and thanking customers.
• Train, mentor, supervise, and lead team members.
• Enforce company policies and procedures with the team.
• Suggest purchases and promote store specials to customers.
• Ensure proper sanitation and food handling procedures.
• Maintain cleanliness and stock levels in store and carwash areas where applicable.
• Restock shelves and displays; manage product transfers to minimize stockouts.
• Operate cash register and perform daily deposits when needed.
• Prepare weekly orders from suppliers and respond to emergencies when needed.
• Work weekends and various shifts as required.
