Job summary

HELP USA is seeking an Assistant Supervisor/Mechanic for its women’s shelter in New York, NY. You will oversee the maintenance and repair function and ensure the physical plant is well-maintained, while supervising staff and ensuring OSHA compliance.

Ideal candidates will have supervisory experience in building maintenance, a valid US driver’s license, and knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus and Microsoft Office skills are beneficial.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent experience.
• Supervisory experience in building trades or maintenance.
• Ability to use tools and equipment used in building maintenance.
• Basic understanding of electrical wiring, boiler mechanics, plumbing, and HVAC; HVAC cert preferred.
• Ability to read diagrams, shop drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Valid US driver’s license is required.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
• Computer literacy with Microsoft applications is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Supervise maintenance staff, assign and coordinate work.
• Identify deficiencies and implement corrective actions.
• Train porters to meet quality standards.
• Make repairs as needed.
• Adhere to OSHA compliance.
• Inventory and dispense materials and supplies.
