Job summary

Jawonio Inc. – NEW CITY, NY is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to perform a variety of facilities and grounds maintenance tasks at group home locations and the main office.

You will perform minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting as needed, maintain logs and work orders, and ensure clean, safe, and accessible work sites for Jawonio’s consumers, employees, and visitors. Overview

As the Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform a variety of work in the maintenance of facilities and grounds at various group home locations, and the main office, including minor carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and painting as needed. Keeps work log and work orders for specific site requirements. Maintains clean, safe, and orderly work sites for a healthy, barrier-free, and productive environment for Jawonio’s consumers, employees, and visitors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds in a clean and orderly manner including mowing, trimming, weeding, aerating and fertilizing lawns; replace plants as needed; set sprinklers; replace broken sprinkler heads; adjust automatic time clocks and system pressure if necessary; maintain grounds maintenance equipment; trim tree branches that create hazardous situations; repair and replace outside bulbs in lighting fixtures, which requires climbing a ladder.
• Knowledge of and adherence to OSHA standards and guidelines to include equipment safety and storage, and proper use of protective gear.
• Safe and proper use of common hand and power tools such as screwdrivers, saws, drills, wrenches, electrical meter and hammers.
• Knowledge of building codes and proper building system operation.
• Perform proper preventative maintenance to ensure that building components continue to perform as designated and in a healthy and safe manner.
• Coordinate, schedule and follow‑up on all building maintenance, including equipment repair work.
• Respond to calls from alarm company regarding alarms being set off inside or during working hours and off hours.
• Responsible for winterizing each group home, inspecting drives, motors and belts, checking fluid levels and replacing filters in heating and air conditioning systems.
• Maintain cleanliness of outside areas of the property, removing litter and debris; keep walks and driveways clean of snow and ice; sand and salt walkways and roadways; perform snow and ice removal using a snow plow attached to agency vehicle, shovels, and other equipment to ensure grounds are safe and hazard‑free.
• Perform minor repairs and maintenance duties including painting, hanging shelves, moving furniture, and other material; perform minor plumbing and electrical repairs such as washers, replacement of faucets, drain pipes, parts of toilets, electrical outlets, and ballasts.
• Direct and follow‑up on work performed by vendors; communicate feedback to Facility Director regarding vendor performance and workload.

Qualifications

• High school or GED plus two years’ experience.
• Basic to intermediate carpentry, electrical, plumbing and masonry knowledge and skills.
• Full working knowledge of the associated tools.
• Basic troubleshooting skills; capable of diagnosing building system problems and determining the best means of repairing (outsource or internal repair) including heating, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, fire, roofing, and domestic water.
• Knowledge of preparing surfaces and painting or staining.
• Ability to use repair manuals, understand blueprints, specification sheets, and parts catalogs.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and a minimum of two years as per insurance company.
