EIHAB Human Services is seeking an Experienced Maintenance Technician to service and maintain our Main Office facilities in Springfield Gardens, NY. This Full Time, hourly position requires a High School diploma and a minimum of five years in building maintenance.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, minor repairs across multiple trades, and ensuring safety standards across the facility. Valid driver’s license required; a strong safety and teamwork mindset is essential.

  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on buildings, equipment, vehicles and systems.
  • Monitor health and safety conditions and respond to issues promptly.
  • Coordinate with supervisor on priorities and safety compliance.
  • Assist with training and following standard work procedures.

Objective:

The function of the Maintenance Department is to preserve and enhance EIHAB buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment and to ensure that the physical environment is safe, free of any physical, chemical, or environmental hazard, in good order, and in compliance with all relevant regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Is alert to health and safety issues at all times and takes immediate action when any discrepancies are found in these areas.
  • Performs minor and/or major repairs and refurbishment to the physical plant, equipment and grounds as assigned.
  • Performs routine and/or complex preventive maintenance to buildings, equipment, vehicles, and other household tasks as assigned.
  • Participates in training as required.
  • Cooperatively accepts assignments and directions from supervisor or team leader on needed repairs, tools and equipment. Asks appropriate questions.
  • Effectively completes the work as assigned or, if appropriate, refers the job to the team leader or supervisor. All work must comply with code requirements.
  • Knowledgeable in the safe and appropriate use of hand and power tools.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of how to isolate mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems.
  • Cooperatively responds to off-hour emergencies to effect repairs or shut down equipment to ensure the continuing operation of the physical plant.
  • Complies with all policies regulating safety and safe work procedures.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
QualificationsQualifications:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • Minimum of 18 years of age and acceptable Background Clearance.
  • A medical examination to be completed before the start date and renewed every two years thereafter.
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one year minimum related experience; or such alternatives to the above qualifications as the CEO/Executive Director may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Have at least 5 years experience in building maintenance
  • Experienced in painting and sheet-racking, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC and tiling.
  • * At least 2 years experience in 2 of the above skillsets
Language Skills:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide by 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variable situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Valid Driver’s License.

Qualifications:

Requires the ability to communicate effectively, normal color vision; ability to use hand and power tools. Must be able to climb, crawl and perform physical labor. Requires experience in one or more of the following skills: mechanical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and/or electrical; equivalent combination of education and experience. Require a valid driver’s license and a high school diploma or GED.
