Summary Job Description:
The maintenance worker is responsible for oversight and upkeep of repairs/ maintenance of agency. Proactive to ensure needs of staff and agency are met timely and efficiently. Individual must have a working knowledge of safe cleaning practices, appropriate supplies and equipment with the ability to use them economically and efficiently; familiarity with the operation and maintenance of heating systems; knowledge of minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, locksmith and mechanical repairs; performs a variety of routine maintenance tasks; ability to understand and carry out simple oral and written directions; willingness to perform custodial and other manual tasks; thorough, dependable and physical capacity to execute all duties of the position.
Demonstrates fidelity to the agency’s service values and organizational imperatives.
Develop a routine schedule of maintenance with the Maintenance Services Manager for our
Rockaway Park site and support of NSP/NSD in absence of one or more of NSP/NSD custodial staff.
Assist with heavy duty work related to repair, upkeep and maintenance of agency property.
Supports all aspects of maintenance of internal/ external building operating systems as needed,
throughout the various seasons.
Performs a variety of errands and agency related tasks related to the maintenance and upkeep of the agency.
Assists in the removal and/or arrangement of chairs, tables and other furniture or equipment as
needed within apartments, offices and agency, overall.
On a daily basis, ensure that doors, windows, locks, alarms, lighting and safe guards are in good
condition and in working order.
Assists/supports housekeeping, as needed and appropriate to grounds-keeping such as removing
snow/ ice, lawn mowing, raking leaves, and general grounds maintenance as needed.
Ensures needed supplies are stocked and replaced/ repaired such as light fixtures, bulbs,
carpentry/electrical accessories as needed.
Assumes responsibility for any/all repairs (minor/ major) to ensure agency is safe, stable and in
compliance with OSHA, ACS/OCFS and other agency overseers/partners.
Accessible/available for emergency on-call assignments as necessary.
Maintains any/ all certifications relevant to/ impacting the position.
Attends any/ all trainings as recommended/ mandated by agency for compliance.
Retains and logs Home Depot purchases and receipts to be submitted to fiscal department
monthly.
Morning cleaning duties: all garbage cans cleaned, all bathrooms cleaned, general facility walk
through for maintenance issues. Vehicle check for gas levels and cleanness. Restock all toilet pare cleaning supplies, garbage bags, dish soap, and laundry soap.
Keep daily log of vehicle maintenance and overall servicing, (all work will be referred to program staff liaison for enterprise fleet).
Monthly fire inspections (fire extinguishers checked and dated, emergency exit lights checked, co2 and smoke alarms checked.
Manage all account relations (Verizon, Broadview, TWC, TVC phone co., CCD alarm co., and
extermination provider.
Emergency Preparedness kits maintain for bad weather and general emergencies.
24 Hour On-Call for maintenance emergencies.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 2 years of related experience with maintenance and repair work; Additionally, this role requires a valid driver’s license. Individual must have a strong work ethic and foresight of preventive maintenance measures; Ability to assess and work independently w/ minimal oversight, as well as follow directives from management
Travel Requirements:
This position may require travel between 2 to 3 residential programs located in Queens, Staten Island, or Brookyln. Travel to St. John’s administrative offices for meetings, trainings, etc. is also required.
