Job description

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent-in-Training (AIT) is an entry‑level position for individuals seeking management careers in golf course maintenance.

Qualifications

• Associate or Bachelor degree in turf management or related field, or trades training and work‑related experience in turf management.
• Knowledge of general business administration practices as applied to golf course operations, practices and procedures acquired through education.
• Working knowledge of golf course operations and practices necessary for effective performance.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Golf Course Maintenance Operations and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent I & II with interviewing, training, scheduling and review of performance for the Golf Course Maintenance staff.
• Have thorough knowledge and understanding of all tasks relevant to Application Foreman, Irrigation Foreman, Equipment Operator I–IV, Landscape Gardener I–IV, Irrigation Technician I–IV, and Application Technician positions.
• Have thorough knowledge of proper care and operation of all maintenance equipment and be able to perform any task associated with maintaining the golf course or equipment.
• Assist with training staff on proper equipment operation, established procedures, and techniques for assigned tasks.
• Obtain and maintain a valid Certified Applicator's License registered in the same state as the golf course.
• Promote and enforce safety practices in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations, and train employees in safety procedures and internal procedures.
• Ensure daily department tasks and duties are completed, communicating recommended changes to supervisors.
• Maintain overall organization and cleanliness of the golf course, equipment, and maintenance facility.
• Assume duties of Irrigation Foreman or Application Foreman as required.
• Assist with special repairs or modifications projects as needed.
• Communicate regularly via a 2‑way radio system.
• Wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with safety operating standards.
• Perform special projects or other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, kneel, use hands, and operate voice‑and‑hearing equipment. Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds is required. The position requires good visual acuity, depth perception, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Compliance with federal, state, and local safety and health regulations is essential. The employee works outdoors and may be exposed to varying weather conditions.

Schedule and Travel

Travel is not expected for this position. Work schedule includes shifts as necessary based on business levels. This position serves as a team lead.
