Job summary

Hunters Run Country Club is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to assist in managing golf course operations and supervising staff. The role involves maintaining the course, preparing for tournaments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

The ideal candidate will have an associate degree in Agronomy or Horticulture, at least 2 years of relevant experience, and excellent communication and team-building skills. A Florida Pesticide license is required within 90 days of employment.

Qualifications

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for assisting the Golf Course Superintendent with management, direction, and leadership of the golf course and grounds operations by performing the following duties:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Schedules, trains, and supervises all employees assigned to their specific golf course.
  • Maintains course in proper playing condition.
  • Prepares course for tournament play.
  • Supervises all planting, fertilizing and care of turf, plants, shrubs, trees and other facilities on the golf course.
  • Ensures that maintenance equipment is properly operating and reports issues appropriately to the Equipment Manager.
  • Observes daily playing conditions including mowing quality, green speeds, bunker conditions, course setup and soil moisture.
  • Develops and maintains drainage, irrigation, and watering systems.
  • Implements and enforces a comprehensive safety program in compliance with local, state and federal laws.
  • Communicates as necessary with other departments to discuss conditions of the facilities, maintenance plans and scheduled events.
  • Ensures that chemicals, petroleum, and other controlled products are used, stored, and disposed of in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Maintains required records and actively seeks to minimize the use of these products.
  • Attends staff and management meetings, turf conferences, workshops and other educational programs to maintain a current knowledge of technical and turf innovations and changes that may affect the department’s operations.
  • Develops staff and fosters an environment where employees are working in the best and most efficient ways possible to achieve department goals.
  • Performs golf course maintenance tasks as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or Director of Golf Course Maintenance, and other tasks as directed.
Education/Experience
  • Associate degree or certificate in Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in golf course maintenance with a progressive career track.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication and team building skills.
Qualifications/Skills
  • Ability to understand, interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Outside work for extended periods of time and precautions should be taken.
  • Ability to work a schedule that will include some weekends and holidays.
Licenses or Certificates
  • Florida Pesticide license (or obtain within 90 days of employment)
  • Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and operate; reach with hands and arms; and see, talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk, bend, push, pull, reach.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Outside work for extended periods of time and precautions should be taken.

  • All employees must wear uniform.
