Job summary

The City of Susanville is seeking an Assistant Fire Chief to lead fire suppression, EMS, hazmat, and prevention programs. You will coordinate emergency responses, supervise firefighters, and manage training and equipment maintenance.

The role reports to the Public Safety Chief and may act as Chief when needed. Preferred candidates hold a Bachelor’s degree in fire science/administration and have at least five years of municipal experience, including three years in command.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in fire science or fire administration, with related field coursework.
• Five years of municipal fire suppression and prevention experience, including at least three years of command experience at the Fire Captain level.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate emergency incidents including fire suppression, EMS and hazmat.
• Oversee staff training and apparatus maintenance; report to Public Safety Chief.
• May serve as Acting Public Safety Chief in absence of the Chief.
• Fulfill responsibilities per the Firefighters Unit MOU and city HR guidelines.
