Job description

The Algorithms, Modeling and Assessments Division of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) has an immediate opening for an on-site and full-time Assistant Facilities Security Officer (AFSO). The qualified candidate will have several years of previous experience in a security management role or related experience (FSO, AFSO, CPSO, Security Manager, or military security manager). The candidate must be eligible to apply for, receive, and maintain a DoD clearance at the Secret level.

Security Tasks include, but are not limited to:

1. Assist with security in-processing for new employees, including orientation on company policies and clearance application submissions for uncleared employees.
2. Submit visit access requests (VARs) using Defense Information Systems for Security (DISS).
3. Perform status checks on investigations, determine upcoming reinvestigation dates, and communicate this information to employees.
4. Assist the FSO with conducting security self-inspections, physical security surveys, and threat/vulnerability assessments.
5. Assist the FSO in conducting and presenting security training sessions to staff.
6. Ensure security training is current and track training completion.
7. Administer COMSEC accounts, including ViPer and STE phones.

Requirements:

1. High school diploma and several years of related experience.
2. Must be eligible for a DoD Secret security clearance.
3. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
4. Experience working with federal/government agencies or defense contractors.
5. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
6. Ability to multi-task and succeed in a fast-paced environment.
7. Professional communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent and five to seven years of related experience, including roles such as FSO, AFSO, CPSO, Security Manager, or military security manager.
2. Knowledge of DISS and SFs systems.
3. Knowledge of DD Forms.
4. Experience with Access Commander software.
