Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation is seeking an Assistant District Materials Manager to oversee materials testing, inspections, and documentation, ensuring compliance with engineering standards on transportation projects.

You will lead a team of inspectors, evaluate mix designs, monitor quality control for asphalt, concrete and aggregates, and provide technical guidance during construction while coordinating with district leadership.

Qualifications

• Five years of civil engineering experience and an Engineer-In-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; or
• One year of civil engineering experience in highway design, construction or maintenance related projects and a bachelor's degree with major course work in civil engineering.

Responsibilities

• Material Compliance: Review materials used on projects to ensure they meet standards and specifications
• Design Approval: Evaluate and approve mix designs and coordinate decisions with district leadership
• Quality Oversight: Monitor quality control plans and test results for asphalt, concrete, and aggregate materials
• Project Support: Attend preplacement meetings and provide technical guidance during construction activities
• Safety Leadership: Promote safe work practices and respond to identified hazards or incidents
• Staff Management: Supervise inspectors, approve administrative requests, and support employee training needs
