Job summary

The State of Minnesota’s Transportation Dept. is seeking an Assistant District Engineer, Program Development in Duluth.

This leadership role guides engineering and administrative functions shaping District 1’s project pipelines, including planning, traffic engineering, project management, right of way and surveying. The incumbent provides executive oversight of early planning, promotes efficient program development, coordinates work across teams and partners, and ensures the district’s highway

Qualifications

  • Licensure as a professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID)
  • Five years of professional post-registration experience of which three years of experience must be at the Engineer Principal level or equivalent

This position is located at District 1 in Duluth and may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.

This position leads engineering and administrative functions that shape MnDOT’s District 1 project pipelines, including planning, traffic engineering, project management, right of way, and surveying. It provides executive oversight of early project planning and scoping, promotes efficient program development, coordinates work across teams and external partners, and contributes to district-wide management. Overall, the role ensures District 1’s highway improvement program is strategically aligned, fiscally responsible, and ready for successful design and construction.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensure as a professional Engineer with the Minnesota Board of Architecture, Engineering, Land Surveying, Landscape Architecture, Geoscience and Interior Design (AELSLAGID)
