Job summary

Hire Up Recruiting's client seeks an energetic Assistant Director for a premier preschool in Lyndhurst, NJ. The role supports the Center Director, drives enrollment growth, attracts and retains teachers, and strengthens community relations while ensuring NJ licensing and safety standards.

The position emphasizes leadership, staff coaching, safety, and high‑quality educational programming, with occasional classroom assistance as needed to maintain a welcoming, learning‑rich environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field; if degree is not in a related field, at least 15 Early Childhood Education related credits are required
• Minimum 2 years of Early Childhood Education (birth to 5 years) teaching experience
• Minimum 1 year of Early Childhood Education (birth to 5 years) leadership/management experience
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. in connection with the handling of children and related safety tasks
• Must meet background check eligibility

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic support to the Director, grow enrollment, attract and retain teachers, and build strong community relations
• Ensure compliance with all state safety, fire, quality programming, educational and staffing regulations as required by NJSDCF licensing and accreditation
• Ensure your center meets state licensing and safety standards while incorporating core values (Safety, Courtesy, Education, Efficiency)
• Motivate, coach and train teachers to deliver creative programs, service excellence and core values
• Deeply connect with students, colleagues and parents to uphold a culture of welcome, safety and respect
• Invoke a robust learning atmosphere that leads students to value being at school and feel part of a rigorous and joyful learning community
• Assist in the classrooms as needed
