Job summary

SEPTA in Philadelphia seeks an Assistant Director of Maintenance – Power Discipline to lead critical traction power and electrical distribution operations. You will manage skilled staff, oversee substations, switchgear, transformers, and SCADA-related projects to ensure safe, reliable transit.

The role requires strong leadership, union collaboration, and a deep knowledge of power systems, with a focus on safety and continuous improvement within SEPTA's EM&C division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field with 3–5 years supervisory experience.
• HS Diploma/GED with 7+ years of progressive maintenance/engineering experience including supervision.
• Experience in transit/power systems environments preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical distribution, traction power, SCADA systems and related infrastructure.
• Experience managing unionized workforces and safety compliance.
• Valid Driver's License; CDL may be required based on needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a diverse maintenance workforce, ensuring safe, efficient operations.
• Schedule and manage employee work assignments to maximize productivity and service reliability.
• Develop, implement, and improve maintenance and preventive maintenance programs.
• Monitor labor and material expenditures and ensure budget adherence.
• Provide coaching, training, and development for maintenance personnel.
• Collaborate with unions, peers, and leadership to resolve issues.
• Diagnose complex maintenance issues and oversee corrective actions.
• Manage procurement of tools, materials, and equipment.
• Participate in recruitment and selection of maintenance staff.
