General Summary of Position

The Assistant Director of Nursing is a member of MedStar Health's Division of Nursing and leadership team. Supports and collaborates with the Director of Nursing to provide leadership and oversight for a specific unit or department. Responsible for directing and coordinating nursing and patient care delivery by professional and support staff. Ensures the provision of holistic, culturally competent, person-centered, quality, safe, and cost-effective evidence-based nursing care for patients and families. Applies the nursing process within the organization's shared decision-making framework. Manages patient transitions across the continuum of care to help patients and populations achieve or maintain optimal health and functioning. Assumes administrative and leadership authority on a 24/7 basis for the assigned unit or department. Promotes a culture of quality, safety, and cost-conscious patient care outcomes. Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to ensure compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as MedStar Health policies and procedures. Demonstrates leadership aligned with MedStar's mission, vision, goals, SPIRIT Values, patient care philosophy, and ethical standards.
