Job summary

A Connecticut nonprofit skilled nursing facility in Woodbury is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join its clinical leadership team. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the ADON will help plan, organize, and direct daily operations of the Nursing Services Department, lead charge nurses and supervisors, and support regulatory compliance.

Key duties include overseeing rounds, supervising staff, coordinating care with physicians and interdisciplinary teams, contributing to QAPI

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN/BSN).
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in CT.
  • Active CPR certification.
  • Minimum 2 years nursing supervisory/leadership in SNF/hospital.
  • Minimum 6 months rehabilitative/restorative nursing experience.
  • Knowledge of long-term care regulations and CMS Participation.
  • Strong clinical judgment, documentation skills, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and directing daily nursing operations in compliance with standards.
  • Provide leadership to Charge Nurses and Supervisors; train staff.
  • Conduct daily rounds to monitor care delivery and infection prevention.
  • Lead development of resident care plans and PASARR involvement.

  • Oversee medication administration and scheduling; report errors.
  • Assist with budgeting and resource planning; support staff development.

Overview

A premier nonprofit skilled nursing facility in Connecticut is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join its clinical leadership team. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, this role assists in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of the Nursing Services Department, leading charge nurses and supervisors, supporting regulatory compliance, driving Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, and ensuring residents attain their highest practicable level of well-being.

What you'll do
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day operations of the nursing department in compliance with federal, state, and local standards
  • Provide direct leadership and administrative oversight to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors, providing training in supervisory principles and delegating operational authority as appropriate
  • Conduct daily clinical rounds throughout resident care areas and nurses' stations to monitor nursing care delivery, medication passes, treatment protocols, and infection prevention standards
  • Participate in preliminary and comprehensive resident clinical assessments (including PASARR) and lead the development of written, person-centered care plans
  • Assist in managing departmental staffing needs, developing daily work assignments, scheduling staff hours, and obtaining/posting required daily staffing information
  • Support the recruitment, selection, orientation, professional licensing verification, and performance evaluations of nursing personnel
  • Coordinate care continuity with attending physicians, medical consultants, government agencies, and interdisciplinary service teams
  • Lead and support the facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, participate in state/federal surveys, and assist in developing plans of correction
  • Oversee medication administration and treatment schedules, investigating and reporting any medication errors directly to the Director of Nursing
  • Assist with departmental budget planning and recommend equipment, supply, and resource allocations
  • Partner with the Staff Development Coordinator to plan and conduct staff in-service training programs and ensure adherence to facility policies and safety standards
Required qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
  • Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut
  • Active CPR certification
  • Minimum of two (2) years of nursing supervisory/leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or related healthcare setting
  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices
  • In-depth knowledge of long-term care regulations, CMS Requirements of Participation, medical practices, and state health codes
  • Strong independent clinical judgment, documentation skills, and problem-solving abilities; ability to perform physical duties associated with clinical rounds and emergency resident support
