Job summary

Frey Consulting Group is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join a premier nonprofit skilled nursing facility in CT. You will support planning, organizing, and directing daily nursing operations, leading charge nurses and supervisors, and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities include clinical rounds, care planning, staffing oversight, staff development, and coordinating with physicians and agencies to maintain high-quality resident care.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN or BSN) required.
  • Current, unencumbered RN license in CT; CPR certification required.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing supervisory/leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility or hospital.
  • Minimum of six months of restorative nursing experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of long-term care regulations, CMS Requirements of Participation, state health codes.
  • Strong independent clinical judgment and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing day-to-day operations of the nursing department in compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
  • Provide direct leadership and administrative oversight to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors, including training in supervisory principles.
  • Conduct daily clinical rounds across resident care areas to monitor nursing care, medications, treatments, and infection prevention standards.
  • Lead the development of written, person-centered care plans through resident assessments.
  • Assist in staffing planning, scheduling, and posting of daily staffing information.
  • Support recruitment, orientation, licensing verification, and performance evaluations of nursing staff.
  • Coordinate care continuity with physicians, consultants, government agencies, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Lead and support QAPI programs, participate in surveys, and assist in plans of correction.
  • Oversee medication administration and treatment schedules; report medication errors to the DON.
  • Assist with departmental budgeting and equipment/resource planning.
  • Collaborate with Staff Development to plan in-service training and adherence to policies.

A premier nonprofit skilled nursing facility in CT is seeking an Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) to join its clinical leadership team.

Reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing assists in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day clinical and administrative operations of the Nursing Services Department. In this key role, you will lead charge nurses and supervisors, support state and federal regulatory compliance, drive Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives, and ensure residents attain their highest practicable level of physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day operations of the nursing department in compliance with federal, state, and local standards
  • Provide direct leadership and administrative oversight to Charge Nurses and Nurse Supervisors, providing training in supervisory principles and delegating operational authority as appropriate
  • Conduct daily clinical rounds throughout resident care areas and nurses' stations to monitor nursing care delivery, medication passes, treatment protocols, and infection prevention standards
  • Participate in preliminary and comprehensive resident clinical assessments (including PASARR) and lead the development of written, person-centered care plans
  • Assist in managing departmental staffing needs, developing daily work assignments, scheduling staff hours, and obtaining/posting required daily staffing information
  • Support the recruitment, selection, orientation, professional licensing verification, and performance evaluations of nursing personnel
  • Coordinate care continuity with attending physicians, medical consultants, government agencies, and interdisciplinary service teams
  • Lead and support the facility's Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, participate in state/federal surveys, and assist in developing plans of correction
  • Oversee medication administration and treatment schedules, investigating and reporting any medication errors directly to the Director of Nursing
  • Assist with departmental budget planning and recommend equipment, supply, and resource allocations
  • Partner with the Staff Development Coordinator to plan and conduct staff in-service training programs and ensure adherence to facility policies and safety standards
Qualifications:
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required (Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing)
  • Licensure & Certification: Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Connecticut required; active CPR certification required
  • Supervisory Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of nursing supervisory/leadership experience in a skilled nursing facility, hospital, or related healthcare setting required
  • Restorative Nursing Experience: Minimum of six (6) months of experience in rehabilitative and restorative nursing practices required
  • Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of long-term care regulations, CMS Requirements of Participation, medical practices, and state health codes
  • Clinical & Physical Capabilities: Strong independent clinical judgment, documentation skills, and problem-solving abilities; ability to perform physical duties associated with clinical rounds and emergency resident support
